An elite alien force known as the Jovian Empire is threatening the human race. The atmosphere on Earth was obliterated and the first lunar metropolis, Erriam, is now the focus of the unrelenting attack. Fortunately for you, the town contains a missile-firing laser that is used for defensive means.
As a fixed screen shooter, Cataclysm involves manning the lunar city's laser and blasting waves of alien attackers while defending Erriam. There are a variety of enemies that range from obelisks to massive space cruisers, all of which will launch bombs towards the lunar base.

Aliens come from all sides of the screen -- some maneuvering across the screen while others appearing for a few moments. Blowing the enemies to smithereens involves moving the crosshair around the screen and pressing the fire button to launch missiles. When an alien attacker has been eliminated, a number of points are awarded.

When 20,000 points has been reached, a monolith demon ship descends from orbit and will attempt to release a bomb on Erriam. You'll have to fire missiles at this ship before the bomb hits, or it will destroy six buildings. There is an assortment of buildings and structures on the moon that must be protected. When all buildings have been eliminated, the game is over.

In addition to the demon ship, a neutrino bomb will move across the screen when 30,000 points have been reached. While this object cannot be destroyed, you must prevent alien attackers from launching missiles towards it. When the neutrino bomb receives damage, it will level the metropolis in a heartbeat. Only you can prevent the Jovian Empire from razing the lunar metropolis! ~ Matthew House, All Game Guide
